Enroll Today! SoCalREN Kits for Kids Program
Fall enrollment is open for schools to reserve their spot in SoCalREN’s Kits for Kids Program! If you haven't heard, Kits for Kids introduces third and fourth-grade students from participating schools to energy efficiency and how it can help their families save money and improve their comfort and safety at home.
With the Kits for Kids Program, students participate in an interactive at-home scavenger hunt and receive energy-efficient items at no cost that can help their families save energy and money.
Participation includes each household installing the energy-efficient items from the kit in their home. The kits contain two LED bulbs, one efficient showerhead, and two faucet aerators (1.5 GPM kitchen faucet aerator, and 1.0 GPM bath faucet aerator). Or, if the participating school is in Southern California Edison and a gas utility service territory other than SoCalGas, the kits will include LED bulbs and a Wi-fi enabled smart plug.
One of the great benefits from participating in this program is that each enrolled classroom is eligible to receive a $1,000 incentive if 65% of students install the energy-efficient items and provide proof of installation. The Kits for Kids program has had incredible success across classrooms! Marci Jefferson, an educator with Mammoth Elementary School, previously participated in the program and thoroughly enjoyed having her students get involved within the Kits for Kids Program! See Marci’s thoughts below.
As Marci mentioned, the Kits for Kids Program helped her students understand the importance of energy efficiency and gave them the opportunity to apply real-life skills in installing energy-saving materials in their home. Some additional Kits for Kids Program benefits include:
- Energy savings through the installation of measures.
- Provide financial relief to families through both energy savings and no-cost measures provided in each kit.
- Educate students, teachers, and parents/guardians about the importance of EE initiatives.
- Increase climate action within residential communities.
The Kits for Kids Program aims to have more classroom participation this school year! This offer is only eligible for the first 250 classrooms that complete the interest form, so make sure secure your spot now!
